Grand Celebration of 8th National Unani Day in Karnataka
On March 5, 2024, the Department of AYUSH, Karnataka, hosted a grand event in Bengaluru to celebrate the 8th National Unani Day. This annual event commemorates the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan, a pioneer in Unani medicine and a significant figure in Indian medical history.
The event was graced by several esteemed guests, including the chief guest Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of AYUSH. Other notable attendees included Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General of the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), and Vaidya Jayant Deopujari, Chairman of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine. The presence of Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Science & Technology, and Dr. Sunchu Glory Swarupa, Director General of the National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, further added to the event's significance.
Hakeem Gulam Mohiuddin, Chairman of HMS Unani Medical College and Hospital, Tumkur, also graced the dais. He inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp and delivered an enlightening speech on dermatology, which was the central theme of the event. His address focused on the advancements and treatment modalities in Unani dermatology, emphasizing the role of Unani medicine in managing and treating various skin conditions.
During the celebration, students were felicitated for their achievements in various competitions and academic excellence. From HMS Unani Medical College and Hospital, Tumkur, several students won accolades:
· Short Film Making: 1st Prize - Mohd Azeem Javeed (Final Year) and Asifa Mahfooz (3rd Year).
· PowerPoint Presentation: 1st Prize - Avesa Alam (2nd Prof).
· Poster Making: 1st Prize - Zohreen Sultana & Noorain (3rd Prof),
2nd Prize - Avesa Aslam & Aftab Shail (2nd Prof).
· Academic Excellence: Shabnam, the UG Topper of the 2018-19 batch, was also honored.
The event highlighted the importance of Unani medicine and its contributions to holistic healthcare. The theme for this year, "Unani Medicine for One Earth, One Health," underscored the global responsibility for planetary health and the role of traditional medicine in addressing contemporary health challenges.
This celebration not only honored the legacy of Hakim Ajmal Khan but also showcased the continuous efforts and advancements in the field of Unani medicine, reinforcing its significance in modern healthcare.
